Back to School - Back to the old Bath Time Routine

Posted on: 1st Sep 2014

It’s that time of year again: Summer is now officially over and those little hell-raisers are finally going back to school! If you’re a parent and you’ve relaxed your children’s routines during the holidays, you'll probably find yourself having to go back to much stricter hours of bath time and bed time. Getting your little treasures to readopt this regime can sometimes be hellish, but here are a few tips from a fellow parent that might help: 1.        Bath Time = Fun Time Bath time should be a period of fun and enjoyment for your children. Take time out to chat and play with them. Ask them what they have got up to during the day and formulate some fun games to play (if you want to be sneaky, these can even be “learning games”!). 2.        Spell it out Make each step of the routine clear to your children. If the process goes tea time, wind-down time, bath time, bed time – make sure you stick to that. Don’t give in to small changes here and there. 3

How to work out how much Bathroom Furniture you need

Posted on: 5th Aug 2014

Designing a bathroom is a lot of work and you’ll no doubt have your head turned by all the fantastic units and pieces of furniture available for this vital household space. Gone are the days when a bathroom simply contained a basic suite with a wall mounted medicine cabinet or shelf; now you can choose from a range of features that include wall hung storage cupboards, vanity units with basins, laundry baskets and back to wall toilet units. All this choice is great for those who want to get the most out of their bathroom but it does pose a few difficulties – the main one of which is ensuring you don’t go overboard and buy too much furniture that simply won’t fit in your bathroom. It’s understandable that you want the best but filling your bathroom with storage units will just make it impractical and inaccessible; two words you really don't want associated with your bathroom! So, to help you create the perfect relaxing space in which to bathe, here’s how to work out just how much furniture your bathroom needs. Measure Up Look at the size of your bathroom and see how much room there is to play with. Take a variety of measurements such as the total floor space as well as the height of the walls and the amount of floor space needed to allow access to different areas. The amount of room you have to work with will not only determine the dimensions of the furniture items you choose but also the amount of furniture you can have too. It is also worth remembering that rules over the distance certain appliances must be placed from electricity points will come into play with your design. Locating these points and working out how much room this takes off your total floor space is essential. If you already have some new furniture in mind, take the dimensions and lay newspaper down to gauge the footprint

House Prices rise but Victoria Plumb's Prices stay low!

Posted on: 2nd May 2014

With property prices soaring in the UK, many renters and owners are finding themselves with less spacious, ‘cosier’ properties than they might otherwise have hoped for. Despite this news, it appears that it's those of us living in London (where property prices have increased by 20% over the past 6-7 years) who are being hit the hardest. Elsewhere in the country, prices are actually slightly lower than they were before the financial crisis of 2007/08. Assess your Options If you are a homeowner, you may be looking at your options. For example, are you looking to sell up and cash in on the equity of your home? If you really are looking to benefit from higher house prices, you may look to downsize. Or perhaps the time is right to assess your home for renovation? If you're a young person looking to step onto the first rung of the property ladder, it may mean you'll be forced to choose a much smaller property than you had anticipated. What has this got to do with Bathrooms? In all the above cases, you are likely to find yourself having to work with a limited space in your home. But this needn’t necessarily mean sacrificing comfort and style. And no matter where you live, your bathroom will be an essential feature of your home’s style and atmosphere. In fact, it's a central feature that is overlooked all too often
