Hot Tub Cleaning
RATING: EASY
Every technician, and every homeowner for that matter, will approach hot tub cleaning differently. Yet after many years and hundreds of thousands of service calls, I have discovered that there are really a few basic procedures that are efficient and save time which any technician would do well to follow. I present my procedures and reasons below.
1. Clean the Deck and Cover A quick sweep or hosing of any debris near the hot tub, at least 10 feet back from the edge, will keep your service work looking good after you have left. Similarly, remove as much debris as possible from the hot tub cover before removing it. If the cover is a floating type, be sure to fold or place it on a clean surface; otherwise, when you put it back in place, it will drag leaves, grass, or dirt into the hot tub.
2. Adjust the Water Level Check the level of the hot tub with the water calm. If several inches of water have evaporated since your last servicing, the hot tub may take some time to refill. Therefore, it's a good idea to put the hose into the hot tub and start the process immediately.
3. Skim the Surface It is much easier to remove dirt floating
on the surface of the water than to remove
it by any means from the bottom. Using
your leaf rake and telepole, work your
way around the hot tub, "raking"
any floating debris off the surface.
