Hot Tub Cleaning page 7
RATING: EASY
7. Chemical Testing and Application: Follow the general testing guidelines described previously and apply the chemicals accordingly; then move ahead to the brushing step to give the hot tub chemicals time to circulate and distribute. The brushing will accelerate that distribution. Then apply acid or alkaline materials. You don't want to apply them together, since combinations of hot tub chemicals can be deadly.
8. Brush the hot tub: On hot tubs that are not very dirty, you can skip vacuuming and brush from the walls to the bottomof the hot tub, directing the dirt toward the main drain, where it will be sucked to the filter. If you plan to use this technique instead of vacuuming, divert all suction to the main drain as previously described.
9. Cleanup/Closeup: After you have collected all your belongings, take one last look at the hot tub before leaving. Did you add enough water and turn off the water supply? Did you pick up everything you brought with you?
Environmentally friendly hot tub maintainence
Hot tubs use fossil fuels to heat them and toxic chemicals for sanitation and cleaning, and hot tubs consume vast amounts of water. So can we enjoy the many benefits of a hot tub with a clear environmental conscience? Yes, if we follow a few basic guidelines for conservation and proper waste disposal reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Chemicals
• Chlorine and other chemicals should be purchased in amounts likely to be used within a week (or two at most) so that you are more likely to use the entire amount.
• Buy products in reusable/recyclable
containers. |
