Bathroom Flooring Made Easy

9th of May 2011

Choosing the right flooring for your bathroom can sometimes be a difficult task. If you want a contemporary look or a traditional style in your bathroom here are four types of flooring that are good to cover any bathroom floor.

Rubber flooring is a flexible and hardwearing finish. It has a soft and warm feeling underfoot and is available in a wide range of colours and textures such as studded or a raised grid. You can get rubber flooring in tile or a wide sheet format.

Real wood flooring is not highly recommended for bathrooms due to the moisture in the air so a great alternative is to use laminate flooring that is specifically designed for bathrooms.  Laminates  designed for bathrooms are less likely to swell and split.

Available in sheets, planks or tiles, vinyl flooring is hardwearing, hygienic and waterproof.  Before laying the vinyl ensure the sub-floor is completely flat. A handy tip is to always use the manufacturer’s adhesives. Some tiles and planks even come with adhesive already on the back.

Popular choices of bathroom tiles are ceramic and porcelain, other popular and more luxurious tiles are white slate, granite, marble and limestone. Many natural stone tiles are porous so will need to be sealed to prevent any staining. Buying tiles that are specifically for bathrooms, especially when being used in a wet room is always a good idea to prevent any chance of you slipping on them when they are wet.

Another handy little tip if you are renovating your whole bathroom is to lay under-floor heating which will not only warm the room but will dry the floor quicker which will reduce the risk of slipping.
